Guild of Master CraftsmenThe Guild of Master Craftsmen is a modern equivalent of their ancestors, the guilds of medieval Europe that were bonded together for mutual protection following the breakdown of the kins. (Groups based on a common bloodline) Merchant guilds were powerful in the 12th and 13th century but lost that power as craft guilds comprising of various tradesmen and apprentices formed. Today the Guild of Master Craftsmen carries on the role of assuring quality in a modern consumer culture. To learn more about The Guild of Master Craftsmen, visit their website at www.guildmc.com |

Scottish Tartan AuthorityScotland’s leading weavers and tartan retailers formed the Scottish Tartans Authority in 1996. Their American counterparts, the International Association of Tartan Studies (IATA) and the Tartan Educational and Cultural Association (TECA), quickly joined them. A member from each sits on the governing board today. They are a registered charity with two clear remits. The first is to study and foster a greater understanding of all aspects of Scottish tartans. The second role they have is the registration of all tartans that have existed plus all new tartans. This has culminated in the creation of the International Tartan Index that is a free ‘public register’.
